In a conversation between Prof. Thomas Rösch and Prof. Alessandro Repici at the Endoscopy on Air 2025 Global Event, the new FiAPC® plus probe is introduced, particularly in the context of treating GAVE (Gastric Antral Vascular Ectasia). The probe features a ceramic tip that enables precise energy delivery and is highly resistant to heat. In combination with the VIO® 3 electrosurgical unit and the APC 3 plasmasurgical unit, this ensures a stable energy flow, allowing for controlled and effective coagulation.
A key advantage in GAVE treatment is that the FiAPC® plus probe does not adhere to the mucosa. This prevents tissue or blood residue from accumulating on the tip and keeps the visual field remarkably clear during the procedure. The probe remains stable while only the endoscope is moved to target lesions accurately. With multiple energy delivery modes – lateral, circular, and frontal – the therapy can be tailored to the specific disease and ablation needs.
Especially for patients suffering from transfusion-dependent anemia and chronic bleeding, the FiAPC® plus probe offers a time-saving and efficient alternative to band ligation. The FiAPC® plus probe represents a promising innovation that significantly improves GAVE treatment while reducing the burden on both patients and healthcare providers.
